Jeff James is a theatre director, writer and dramaturg. Originally from Leeds, he is now based in London. 

He has directed plays at the Young Vic, Manchester Royal Exchange and the Yard.

His writing includes an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Persuasion (with James Yeatman) and Stink Foot, a new version of Philoctetes by Sophocles.

He was associate director on Ivo van Hove's English language productions from 2014-2017, including A View from the Bridge, Hedda GablerLazarus, and The Crucible.

Jeff is represented by Tracey Elliston at Judy Daish Associates.

Upcoming directing projects include a revival of his adaptation of Persuasion at the Rose Theatre and Alexandra Palace Theatre in Spring 2022, and First Touch by Nathaniel Price at Nottingham Playhouse.

Jeff is also working as writer and dramaturg with choreographers Jess and Morgs on a short dance film with English National Ballet and on a new full length adaptation of Coppélia for Scottish Ballet
